A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

How I became an Equine & Human Therapist...

My passion for horse's began from the age of 6. Having always dreamt of a career with horses, I had the opportunity to follow my dreams and went on to study BSc (Hons) Equine Science. Having graduated I completed further studies in Equine Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy.

During my time as an equine therapist I began to realise how much the rider can influence the horse and vice-versa, causing in-balances and subsequent soreness and potential injury. I therefore furthered my studies into human therapy, with my primary focus being on alignment and sports injury. Today I am able to assess and treat both horse and rider, thus improving horse and rider harmony and enhancing performance.

WAYS IN WHICH SPORTS MASSAGE / KORE THERAPY CAN HELP THE RIDER...

An Asymmetrical Rider = An Asymmetrical Horse

Asymmetry within the human body can be caused by a number of factors, some of which include:
- Injury/pain
- Day-to-day activities such as; yard duties, desk posture, sports - anything we do over and over again...

Asymmetry within the saddle causes uneven weight distribution, favouring the stronger side, forcing the body to make compensatory adjustments to help us stay on-board. These compensations may manifest as; favouring a particular rein, difficulty putting one leg on, catching a pole on the same rein, and more... thus affecting both horse and rider performance.

How can I help you?
Identification of:
- Structural imbalance
- Tightness/restrictions
- Muscle weakness
- Areas of compensation

Treatment:
- Gentle pelvis and spinal release techniques
- Mobilisation and joint release
- Specialised massage techniques
And more...

EQUINE SPORTS & REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY

Getting the best out of your horse...

Happy horse, happy owner!

How do you know if your horse requires a massage?

You may notice a change in your horse's behaviour, including; irritability, stiffness, a reduced range of movement, refusing correct leads or catching a fence... the chances are your horse may benefit from sports massage therapy.

What are the benefits of equine sports massage?

- Helps to prevent injury
- Relieves muscle spasm, tension & soreness
- Enhances proprioception
- Increases athleticism/performance
- Restores range of movement
- Promotes general well-being

Note: Equine massage does not replace veterinary care; an equine massage therapist cannot, by law, diagnose or treat lameness or injury. If you believe your horse has a problem you should always consult your veterinarian.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment of the horse includes:

 - relevant history

 - conformation and posture

 - gait movement evaluation

 - problem areas and behavioural difficulties identified

 - diagnostic muscle testing

Following initial assessment (approximately 15 minutes) feedback on findings will be provided along with a suggested treatment plan.

TREATMENT

FULL MASSAGE (Approximately 1 hour)

Head-to-tail sports & remedial massage/muscle therapy including:

 - Trigger/Pressure Point Work - to release and drain toxic build-up

 - Soft tissue release

 - Passive stretches and mobilisation

PRE-EVENT MASSAGE (Approximately 30 minutes - travel charge may be applied)

Helps the horse feel invigorated within a shorter period of time. Loosens and warms muscle tissue, stimulates the nervous system & increases circulation.

POST-EVENT MASSAGE (Approximately 30 minutes - travel charge may be applied)

Speeds up recovery by releasing and loosening muscle tissue, removes lactic acid and metabolic by-products that build up during exercise and reduces the onset of muscle soreness.

Anne Leese recommends Kathryn Briand-Hall Equine & Human Therapy.

To have this extremely talented and patient individual on our doorstep is amazing. Kathryn is a very understanding lady who caters for your specific needs. I have seen several health professionals over the years to fix my back and compensation issues during running but without much success. Finding Kathryn and having the recommended treatments has corrected my compensation during running, adjusted my back correctly and now I run with ease, without injury and more importantly - i enjoy it again. I cannot recommend Kathryn enough and would certainly recommend you give her a call - she may be that missing piece to your puzzle. Many thanks - Anne
